“We know very well from our own history what it’s like to live with a big brother behind your back,” said Milos Vystrcil, the speaker of the Czech Senate. “And this is why we support Taiwan, because they live with a big brother behind their back, the People’s Republic of China.”How will improved ties with Taiwan change Europe’s relationship with China? “There is definitely China fatigue in the region,” said Ivana Karaskova, a China research fellow at the Prague-based think tank the Association for International Affairs. “The expected influx of Chinese investment has not materialized…and the countries are now more interested in exploring ways of cooperating with Taiwan.”
President of the Czech Senate Milos Vystrcil angered China when he led a Czech delegation to Taiwan last year.In Lithuania, a former Soviet republic that now borders an increasingly assertive Russia, some see a reflection of themselves in Taiwan.
