Though already packed with stars, Thor: Love and Thunder saw a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe cameos hit the cutting room floor and Taika Waititi has a blunt response as to why they were cut. The new film picks up sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame as Chris Hemsworth's titular hero elects to retire from his adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy in the hopes of finding inner peace.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Alongside Hemsworth, the cast for Thor: Love and Thunder features the MCU returns of Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgård, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and the Guardians of the Galaxy cast. The film also marked the MCU debuts of Christian Bale as Gorr, Russell Crowe as Zeus and Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein as his son Hercules in the mid-credits scene.
"I wrote the thing so when you cut anything it's a little bit of a challenge to yourself because you're like, 'Am I not that good? Should I have seen this coming?' But every film I've done I've probably cut the same amount out. When you go into the edit you just never know. A scene on its own could be the most funniest thing or intriguing thing, but sometimes those things if you keep them in will just make the movie screech to a halt.
While anticipation had been high in general for the film as a whole, the tease that Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum were expected to make their MCU returns as Eitri and the Grandmaster for Thor: Love and Thunder had many audiences excited.
Though Dinklage and Goldblum's cut MCU cameos have come and gone without much fanfare, the removal of Lena Headey from Thor: Love and Thunder made headlines ahead of the film's release as the Game of Thrones actress was subsequently sued by her former U.K. agency over unpaid commission fees.
