The theatrical metal band has a pop-up confession booth, which doubles as a photo booth, in Los Angeles in advance of its Sept. 11-12 concerts at the Kia Forum in Inglewood.
Papa Emeritus, or Papa Emeritus IV, to be precise, is the current persona of frontman Tobias Forge, who cofounded the band in 2008. A sort of demonic-looking pope character, Papa has gone through various looks and incarnations over the years.
Forge appears on stage in skull-like makeup, religious vestments and holy hats, including recently a cornette, which looks a bit like a nun’s wimple blown out and blackened. The rest of Ghost are known as the Nameless Ghouls and remain obscured inside various masks and costumes. “Fun!!! Hope to visit before the LA rituals!” wrote Vicki Papscoe on Facebook, using the term – rituals – that Ghost fans – or Ghesties – use for the band’s concerts.“Cries in Irish!” commented Steff Caffrey on Facebook. “I would LOVE to see that!!!!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!!!”“We Implore you to come back the UK so we can confess our sins to you in person while screaming Year Zero!” she posted on Facebook.
