Many areas will warm into the low to mid 60s throughout Tuesday afternoonSouthcentralClouds are already clearing out of the region, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies in the forecast throughout the day. With more sunshine through the afternoon hours, temperatures today should have no trouble breaking into the 60s for many locations. As per usual, the warmest stretch of weather will be through the Matanuska-Sustina Valley, where temperatures will likely warm into the mid to upper 60s.
Soak up what sunshine you can, as an easterly wave moves into Southcentral overnight into Wednesday. Rain will initially start in the Copper River Basin and through eastern parts of Prince William Sound, before spreading eastward through Wednesday morning and afternoon. There’s plenty of moisture associated with this wave, so expect anywhere from a quarter to nearly an inch of rain through the day.
The same low that will pull an easterly wave into Southcentral, will also lead to widespread rain for the. Heavy rain will primarily impact the Southern Inner Channels where 0.74 to 1.50 inches of rain can be expected. Lighter, but still heavy rain, will fall further north through Southeast. These cloudier and wetter conditions will lead to cooler weather in the days ahead. Beyond today, expect a couple of days where highs will stay in the mid to upper 50s.today.
While summer is trying to make an appearance across much of the state, cooler weather is still prevalent from. Persistent northerly flow across the Bering is driving in colder conditions. This will keep many areas out west seeing highs in the mid to upper 40s throughout the day. Even parts of the Pribilof Islands could see some wintry mix, as the colder air from the north mixes in with the rain.
Meanwhile, the Slope is gearing up for warmer weather. Starting later this week and into next week, a more favorable pattern for warmer air settles into the region. This will lead to highs warming well into the 40s for many areas. Watch for snowmelt and the potential for ice jams, as temperatures quickly warm through next week.
