Summer Creek ended Shadow Creek’s 11-game winning streak, beating the Sharks 36-20 in a Region III-6A area round playoff game Friday night at TDECU Stadium.

The Bulldogs advance to the regional semifinal round to take on Katy, which defeated Memorial 62-21 on Friday night.

Katy and Summer Creek played in the Region III-6A Division II final last season, and the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 34-31 in a thriller.Summer Creek scored on its opening drive as senior quarterback Jahrik Jones put the Bulldogs up 7-0 with a 5-yard TD run at the 9:20 mark of the first quarter. A 67-yard pass from senior quarterback Duke Butler to Dane Jones set up Shadow Creek for a 37-yard field goal attempt, but it was blocked by Summer Creek’s Darien Hargrove and returned by William Hill for a touchdown. Kicker Julien Cano then threw a 2-point conversion pass to Kordell Rodgers after a bad snap.

After Butler connected with Jacorey Watson for a 44-yard gain, he hit Watson on a 3-yard fade route for a touchdown to make it 15-7 with 8:35 left in the second quarter.Lloyd Avant extended the lead to 22-7 on a 21-yard TD run with 1:53 left in the second quarter, and that was the margin at the half.

On 4th-and-goal from the 4-yard line, Butler found Jacorey Watson for a score with 41 seconds left in the third quarter, pulling Summer Creek within 22-14.Butler ran left and threw back to the right side a 4-yard TD pass to Josh Bet, and after a missed extra point it was 29-20 with 5:25 left.
