Strong opening half fuels Fort Bend Austin girls to win over Stratford

Austin opened the previous week with a victory at Alief Taylor, then won all six games for the Lamar Consolidated ISD Tournament championship. The Bulldogs defeated Lamar Consolidated, Cypress Falls, Friendswood, Fulshear, Manvel and Beaumont West Brook during a three-day span. Austin established its 52-24 advantage on the boards early, with Kelechi Dike making a putback and following a rebound by Aminah Dixon with a basket.
Stratford sprung back into the game in the second quarter, with five points from Kendall Davis and consecutive threes by Maggie Parker, who led the Spartans with nine points and six rebounds, closing the gap to 20-14. Jakyla Cheeves added a fast-break basket and Rachel Ashby's skillful finish after a steal closed Stratford's first-half scoring.
