Paramedics, 999 call handlers, drivers and emergency medical technicians from the Unison and GMB unions are taking part inThe NHS has warned people to only dial 999 in a genuine, life-threatening emergency during the strike with only “life and limb” cover available but it insisted people should still seek emergency care where needed.
Striking workers have been leaving picket lines to go on emergency calls, with Health Secretary Steve Barclay accusing unions of putting patients’ safety at risk by failing to provide minimum safety service levels.
