Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks are more alike than you think.
Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4, Episode 1 - "Twovix" & Episode 2 - "I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee"
As hilarious as ever and even more self-assured, Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 is set after Mariner and Boimler returned from the 23rd century USS Enterprise, an encounter they are "not supposed to talk about" for obvious timeline preservation reasons. Lower Decks season 4, episode 1, "Twovix," saw dual Star Trek: Voyager-like crises strike both the USS Cerritos and the USS Voyager, with Boimler saving the day aboard the former starship of Captain Kathryn Janeway .
Strange New Worlds season 2 took "big swings" like a Spock comedy episode about Vulcan manners, the crossover with Lower Decks, and Star Trek's first-ever musical episode. But those "big swings" for live-action are par for the course in Lower Decks' animated universe. Mariner worked through her issues with her mother, Captain Carol Freeman by spoofing the Star Trek movies in Lower Decks season 1's "Crisis Point.
