A severe weather alert is in place as Storm Babet brings heavy rain
Heavy, persistent rain and strong winds are forecast for Leeds today as Storm Babet moves across the north.
The alert says homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, with some communities at risk of being cut off by flooded roads, and fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a potential “danger to life”. Train and bus services are likely to see delays and cancellations due to the wet weather, while spray and flooding is expected to result in road closures and difficult driving conditions.
Around 50mm of rain is expected to fall across northern parts of England today, potentially reaching up to 80mm in the North York Moors and Lincolnshire Wolds.
