The park’s grand opening will be 2 p.m. Saturday at 4332 W. Jefferson Blvd., not far from where Vaughan was born and raised in Oak Cliff.
It’s not the first memorial to Vaughan in Dallas or Texas. In 1994, Austin dedicated a statue of Vaughan. In 2020, another statue was dedicated to both him and Jimmie Vaughan near their old 1,100-square-foot Oak Cliff home in Kiest Park.The new space includes a stage, a grassy knoll and parking spots for food trucks. Near the lawn, a mural by Steve Hunter depicts photos of the Vaughan brothers through the years.
Carrera told KERA that he hopes the park will encourage more local music and the next generation of artists.
