We chat with OldMan star iamstephenlang about his new stage play-esque thriller, poetic influences, comparisons to DontBreathe's Blind Man, and more:

Stephen Lang is back in the horror-thriller genre with Old Man. Lang stars as the titular character, a recluse who finds his relatively tranquil existence interrupted by a lost hiker, with whom he engages in an increasingly hostile conversation.

In anticipation of the film's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with star Stephen Lang to discuss Old Man, the poetic nature of the movie's story, comparisons to Don't Breathe's The Blind Man, and more. It reminded me a bit of Allen Ginsberg, some of Allen Ginsberg's work, in a way, which is a total plus for me, because it harkens back to the whole beat sensibility. There's something anachronistic about The Old Man in the first place, it seems to me, so those are just some of the feelings that were swirling around as I read it. I found it intriguing enough to want to pursue it, to find out what it was that that was piquing my interest in the thing.

But this guy, his life is a fevered dream, it seems to me, he's kind of in this loop of delusion upon delusion upon delusion, which bears no kind of resemblance to anything that The Blind Man, for example, is associated with. I guess the only thing that they had is they're both crusty old bastards, is what they are. [Chuckles] Stephen Lang: Yeah, that's where the similarity kind of ends.

Stephen Lang: I think that it's kind of an endless loop, it's deja vu all over again for him. This entire film can take place within the blink of an eye, behind the eyeball of the man who's kind of within this fever dream. I don't know whether it's real, I don't know that it matters whether it's real. I know that he’s like that gerbil on the mill who just kind of keeps running and falls off exhausted and wakes up to find that he's still on the mill and running.
