Most Americans agree on the need to reduce the price that patients pay for prescription medicines.
, which has authority over state-regulated commercial boards, including individuals with private insurance purchased through the state exchange and those with employer sponsored insurance .
Therefore, if the Prescription Drug Affordability Board identifies medicines that have a high total out-of-pocket cost and a high average per patient out-of-pocket cost, they will only be targeting those medicines that are taking advantage of an obvious market failure and therefore need to be regulated.
This legislation would help ensure that a patient’s ability to pay does not impact their ability to take their prescription medicine, which is currently the situation for many Pennsylvanians unfortunately. Nobody benefits from patients not being able to afford their medicines-patients, pharmaceutical companies and society are all losing when drug prices are unaffordable.
