CLEVELAND, Ohio – In his first state of the county address, Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne painted an aspirational view of a county not defined by its historical failings, but one renewed, and as coursing with potential as the river that runs through it.
Speaking on the bank of that Cuyahoga River on Friday afternoon, he acknowledged some of the challenges the county must yet overcome, such as providing a humane jail, better housing for children and seniors, and improving the overall health of its residents. But he called on the community to view the county in the same way as its river, which famously caught fire in 1969 and is “now returned.”
