The State Fair Cares Initiative has become a yearly tradition to mark the end of the fair.
Vendors bring their leftover food supplies to the Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center. From there, the food is distributed to North Texas food pantries and shelters.
"We have nine community organizations coming today to pick up this food in order to help serve in our community as early as this evening," said Karissa Condoianis, a spokeswoman for the State Fair of Texas. "Our community comes and support us all during the fair and all of our small business owners out here and this is just one way we can help give back to the community that does so much for us."The final attendance came in right above 2.3 million people.
