Wednesday's forecast called for 'ongoing' heavy precipitation over California possibly extending into early spring.

There's a good chance the start of spring is going to look a lot like winter in San Francisco, according to federal forecasts.

That projection was down from as much as a 90% chance of above average rain during the five-day stretch starting with the first day of spring, issued as part of the agency's 10-day precipitation outlook. In other words, one of San Francisco's wettest years is likely to continue into at least the earliest portions of the spring, even if it's not as windy as winter's final days.

The numbers were similarly staggering in the North Bay , the East Bay and along the Peninsula . That doesn't even include San Jose, which experts say has likely been undercounted this water year.
