The Millennium Falcon's role in the Battle of Endor is more significant than Star Wars fans think.

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Dark Droids #1 The Millennium Falcon is easily the most recognizable and iconic ship in Star Wars canon, but more than that, the Millennium Falcon is a character in and of itself, with a complete arc centered around another iconic Star Wars character. No, not Han Solo or even Chewbacca, but Lando Calrissian.

Every available Rebel ship in the galaxy made themselves available to take down the second Death Star and destroy the Empire once and for all.
Lando Calrissian and the Millennium Falcon Are A Star Wars Love Story L3-37 was Lando Calrissian’s droid partner who was an expert navigator and co-pilot on the Falcon before Lando even heard the name ‘Han Solo’. During the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Elthree’s consciousness was uploaded into the Falcon to save her life, making her a permanent part of the ship.
Dark Droids isn’t the only time Lando Calrissian and Elthree’s relationship post-Solo was addressed in the comics. In Star Wars #17 by Charles Soule and Ramon Rosanas , Lando apologizes to Elthree for abandoning her when he lost the Millennium Falcon to Han. After seeing them together in Dark Droids - essentially being described as lovers by the book’s very narration - it seems Elthree accepted Lando’s apology.
With these additional insights, this Star Wars side-story that many fans likely didn’t even know existed is now an arc of Lando and L3-37 being separated, him losing her to Han Solo during his lowest years, and then them coming back together as a team to save the galaxy. As previously noted, theirs is a love story, one that spans multiple movies and canonical comics, and one that - among other things - gives new meaning to the Millennium Falcon’s role in Star Wars’ Battle of Endor.
