A row of St Albans Road shops are set to have four flats built on top after plans were approved.
Plans to add an extra floor of housing to 338 to 344A St Albans Road were granted yesterday, May 1, by Watford Borough Council.
The two-storey building currently houses several ground-level shops, which will retain their retail units, and one floor of two-bedroom flats above. Borough council officers said the proposals were unlikely to increase traffic in the area and their impact on the surrounding area’s character and appearance was acceptable. The proposed extra storey, measuring 232 square metres, will add a pair of two-bed apartments as well as two single-bed flats, housed in a pitched design to replace the existing flat roof.
The fences in the garden will be removed in order to create a 461-square-metre-communal space and bike storage for the occupants of the new and existing flats. To reach the new apartments, the internal staircases and external fire escape would be extended, while some vent ducts for the shops will be removed. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. Greek Pitta in St Albans Road for SaleThe Greek Pitta in St Albans Road is inviting offers in excess of £90,000 from anyone looking to take over and serve its existing customer base. The rent would then be £6,230 quarterly. The owner mentioned that he also has another business in Bedfordshire, where he lives, and it had become difficult to juggle both roles. He is therefore looking to sell it on to someone who can continue from the position the business is in. There is, however, no requirement that a new owner would continue to run the unit as The Greek Pitta so they could offer a different cuisine. Nova Estate Agents Luton, said: “Located in the heart of Watford's bustling high street on St Albans Road, The Greek Pitta offers a fantastic opportunity for entrepreneurs looking to enter the thriving food industry. This established Greek takeaway is a haven for lovers of Mediterranean cuisine and boasts a prime position in a high footfall area.
