The speed limit has been dropped to 20mph on part of Gregory Boulevard, Hyson Green, as part of a scheme to prevent people being injured in road accidents

A busy Nottingham road has had its speed limit lowered in a bid to prevent dangerous crashes near a school. .

A total of 271 crashes were recorded along the A6130 between January 2015 and October 2022, leading to two deaths and 24 serious injuries. In recent weeks the speed limit on Gregory Boulevard outside Djanogly City Academy has been reduced, marking the start of a raft of planned road changes in the area.

Last year Nottingham City Council approved a series of changes to the A609 Ilkeston Road and Wollaton Road and the A6130, Gregory Boulevard, Radford Boulevard and Lenton Boulevard. A total of £1.425 million from The Department for Transport's Safer Roads Fund is being used to improve safety on the A-roads, which the government agency's data identified as having "major road safety concerns".

Those living near the boulevard previously welcomed the potential changes, which they hoped would prevent crashes on the busy road. A second road improvement scheme is planned on Lenton Boulevard between Church Street and Abbey Bridge roundabout, which will be around Enda G Primary and Dunkirk Primary.

Nottingham City Council previously said the consultation for this project is planned for Spring/Summer 2024, with construction for 2025.
