Deadly flash flooding has hit eastern Spain, piling up cars in the streets and tearing down the walls of homes. Hundreds of soldiers have been deployed, as neighbouring countries line up to offer help - with the Spanish prime minister warning it may not be over yet.
We have been reporting on the rescue response in Spain after flash floods struck eastern parts of the country.
Earlier, Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Germany's foreign minister Annalena Baerbock also offered assistance.Meanwhile, Ms Meloni said:"Italy is close to Spain in this terrible moment.", climate reporter The Spanish government made the announcement as one local journalist said the country was being faced with the "worst natural disaster in 50 years".People"should not be dying from these kinds of forecasted weather events", a climate expert has said.
"Climate scientists have been warning for years that climate change will lead to more intense rainfall, and the tragic consequences of this event show that we have a long way to go to prepare for this kind of event, and worse, in future."The number of people killed by flooding in Spain has risen to 72.
The meteorological service of Catalonia has registered 22mm of rain falling in the town of Sant Cugat del Valles within the space of 30 minutes today. The weather agency has said local showers are"strong" and"in some cases they are accompanied by hail".Weather warnings for storms and heavy rain remain in place for areas of Spain after parts of the country were hit by flash floods.
