Jarell Quansah will be involved in England's friendly against Iceland on Friday
Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has remained with England ahead of Friday's friendly with Iceland at Wembley - despite not being named in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for this summer's European Championships.
The 21-year-old defender was one of seven players axed from the Three Lions' 33-man provisional squad, with Reds team-mate Curtis Jones, Jack Grealish, James Trafford, James Maddison, Jarrad Branthwaite and Harry Maguire also omitted from the team that will begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on Sunday week.
However, Southgate has confirmed that unlike Jones, who left England's training camp at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night after being informed that he was not in the final 26-man squad, Quansah will be involved in England's game against Iceland on Friday and is on standby in the event of any last minute injuries.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Southgate said: "Jarell has stayed with us. I think he's not had the experience of an England international at Wembley, so that will be great for him to be with us for the game.Quansah, who joined Liverpool's academy at the age of five, was an unused substitute in England's 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.
Not far from Anfield, Everton defender Branthwaite was expected to be named in Southgate's squad for the finals after an impressive season for the Goodison Park club - but the 21-year-old was overlooked by the England manager in favour of Lewis Dunk.
