South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson sent a letter to Eventbrite, challenging the event ticketing service over alleged censorship.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson In the letter, South Carolina's attorney general was joined by 18 other states in lambasting what he described as "Big Tech suppressing and censoring viewpoints it doesn't agree with," after Eventbrite unpublished an event where the guest was set to speak on the "dangers" of pediatric gender transitions.
"Companies do not have to agree with their consumers," Wilson said. "But they absolutely should not silence one viewpoint and promote another.” Attorney General Alan Wilson penned a letter to Eventbrite, joined by 18 other states, imploring the company to respect freedom of speech following alleged censorship.The event, which is still scheduled to take place, will feature Chloe Cole, a 19-year-old individual who underwent gender transition and speaks out against gender transition, highlighting the alleged dangers it poses to children.
Wilson, in the letter, gave Eventbrite 30 days to clarify how Chloe's account of the transgender experience is allegedly "hateful, dangerous, or violent, and what will do going forward to ensure event screening policies are politically unbiased and respectful of freedom of speech." Wilson was joined by states including Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.
