He died just days after being made chairman of Basford United
A Hucknall man is paying tribute to his dad, former Basford United Chairman Jamie Brough, with a meaningful challenge later this month. On Friday, April 24, Jude Brough will be climbing Mount Snowdon with colleagues and students at Sports Gateway, a sports college founded by Jamie.
Jude and Jamie previously climbed the mountain together during the summer of 2021, and now a group of around 20 people will be completing the climb in Jamie's memory. However, Jude will be the only one wearing a full firefighter kit and breathing apparatus throughout, weighting around 25 kilos as he is an on call fire fighter for Hucknall Fire Station.
Money raised from the event will be split between The Firefighters Charity and Sport in Mind, which are both causes close to Jude's heart. The 20 year old is also a tutor at Sports Gateway.Speaking of how his dad would feel, Jude said: "I think he'd be proud and honoured that people he has employed and students he has helped grow have turned out to be able to be a part of something special.
"So wherever I find the smallest of chances to do the same, I will do." Jamie died on May 1, 2022, whilst on holiday in Cruz in Tenerife, Spain with his wife. He was 45. This was three days after he had been appointed to run the non-league football club, Basford United, which remained vacant for the 2022/23 season in his memory. Jude hopes to raise at least £1,085 from the challenge, "because that's a pound for every metre that it is bottom to top."
