It's unlikely to last long, though.
Tuesday morning at the tail end of a barrage of winter storms that have brought wind, rain and cool temperatures to the region since Dec. 26.
More than 3 inches of snow reportedly fell Monday at Mount Hamilton, a towering peak in Santa Clara County’s Diablo Mountain Range, Lick Observatory employees told SFGATE. “Approximately 4 inches fell at the summit, but the winds caused some of it to drift to as much as 12 inches in places,” wrote staff astronomer Elinor Gates in an email. “Some of it melted yesterday, leaving only a couple inches on the ground in most locations.” The snow is unlikely to last long, though.
“In fact, we usually get a few snowstorms every year,” she continued. “This season we have already had multiple snowstorms accumulating a few inches of snow, which is more storms than average for this time of year.”
