“We feel a little like the dog who chased the car and got it,” said SMU athletic director Rick Hart, who was presented with an official plaque by Phillips that signified the university’s entry. “Now what? A little bit overwhelmed with the task of trying to put together the plan and the actions and the strategy to make sure we can compete.”
The Mustangs won a school-record eight team AAC championships in its final season with the conference, had nine programs finish within the top 35 of NCAA or national rankings and produced 20 athletes who garnered All-America honors.former USC head coach Andy Enfield
