The Roadrunners new running back is familiar with Jeff Traylor from his days at Arkansas.
Running back Trelon Smith, at 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, gives UTSA a bit of speed to go with their otherwise bruising ground game.As UTSA co-offensive coordinator Will Stein flipped on film to start an initial breakdown of the Texas Longhorns this summer, he also caught a first glimpse of one of his newest weapons.
“I competed with some of the top schools in the country,” Smith said. “With me having that experience, I feel like coming to UTSA, I'll be able to show the guys something, and just perform to the best of my ability.” At UTSA, McCormick proved to be a workhorse for Traylor, rushing for 2,946 yards and 26 touchdowns the past two years to earn consecutive Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year awards and help the Roadrunners to their first league title in 2021.
Brenden Brady announced in April that he would return to UTSA for a fifth year of eligibility after racking up 1,052 yards and eight touchdowns in four seasons, and Tye Edwards joined the roster as a heralded junior college transfer. Smith’s quickness and elusiveness help him thrive in space, Stein said, but he remains willing to press for tough yards between the tackles.
Smith said he exchanged phone numbers with quarterback Frank Harris on his first day in the program, picking the veteran’s brain for help with the playbook.
