Hibs held firm to collect a point against Celtic as a 0-0 draw extended Brendan Rodgers’ wait for an Easter Road win.
It worked early on as the Hoops had to work hard for any openings. It took almost 20 minutes for the visitors to threaten when Rocky Bushiri passed the ball straight to Paulo Bernardo on the edge of the box and the midfielder fired narrowly wide. The big defender was living dangerously at times – and he almost got caught when he caught Alistair Johnston flush in the face with a clearance.
Hibs had kept it tight but came out their shells at the start of the second half – and they should have been ahead when Jordan Obita’s curling cross picked out Boyle. But the hitman was stretching and could only steer his volley over the top. Moments later sub James Forrest’s slack pass was cut out and he needed Joe Hart to divert Dylan Vente’s flashed effort.
After 10 league games, Celtic have been on the road six times – to some of the toughest venues in the country. Rodgers' men have now been to Ibrox, Pittodrie, Tynecastle, Fir Park and Livingston before the trip to Easter Road. The Portuguese midfielder managed just 51 minutes from the bench before coming on for the injured Reo Hatate against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. But the 21-year-old was handed a start at Easter Road and he’ll be looking to cement his place in the side with Hatate facing a long spell out.
