Despite Trump’s attacks on law and order, voters are largely split on which candidate would keep Americans safe.
All the polls were conducted at least partially as Trump began conducting White House coronavirus briefings again, casting doubt on the efficacy of his renewed public appearances in rescuing his flagging campaign. In the CBS News national poll, approval of Trump’s handling of coronavirus is just 43%, compared to 57% disapproval. 64% say the U.S. effort to deal with the outbreak is going badly.
A plurality in the CBS News poll say Trump is making the economy worse as 84% say the economy is a major factor in their vote.FiveThirtyEight editor-in-chief Nate Silver advised caution in prognosticating on polls this far out with so many independent variables.
