7 people killed, including the gunman, in shooting at a Virginia Walmart, authorities say
Here’s why we’re seeing a sudden rise in gun violence across the U.S.Six people were killed and others wounded in a shooting rampage at a Walmart store in Chesapeake, Virginia, late Tuesday, authorities said, theThe Chesapeake Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the Walmart at about 10:15 p.m. ET and immediately found evidence of the shooting, police spokesman MPO Leo Kosinski said in a news briefing.
Over 35 to 40 minutes, officers found multiple dead and wounded people in the store and put rescue and tactical teams together to go inside and provide life-saving measures, he said. Police believe there was one shooter, who is dead, Kosinski said, adding that authorities believe the shooting had stopped when police arrived.Mike Kafka, a spokesman for Sentara Healthcare, said in a text message that five patients from Walmart are being treated at Norfolk General Hospital.
