Lonely single men are 'struggling to measure up'
Men are struggling to meet the dating standards of modern women, according to a psychologist. The Mail Online reports American psychologist Greg Matos wrote in a recent Psychology Today article that men need to "address a skills deficit" to get the most out of dating.
He said: "I hear recurring dating themes from women between the ages of 25 and 45. They prefer men who are emotionally available, good communicators and share similar values." Communication would seem to be the biggest issue, and the competition in dating circles is intense. Some 62% of those on dating apps are men, while figures show that in the US more men than women are single.
Dr Matos said: "Over the last 30 years, men have become a larger portion of that growing group of long-term single people. And while you don’t actually need to be in a relationship to be happy, men typically are happier and healthier when partnered." He added the overwhelming number of online dating options had led to both men and women becoming "increasingly selective". Single men are statistically more unhappy and more likely to be unemployed and financially unstable.
