Simon Jordan responds to calls to change Man United and Man City's crests MUFC MCFC
Simon Jordan insisted it was a ‘remarkable leap’ to link the ships on the badges of both Manchester clubs to the slave trade.
There have been some calls for its removal from the shirts of Man City and Man United, following on from other sports organisations who have changed their logos and team names in recent years.Washington Redskins in NFL rebranded as the Washington Commanders, while the Cleveland Indians in MLB are now known as the Guardians.
“This is a remarkable leap to suggest that the slavery trade, that was abolished 37 years before Manchester United created their badge, is in some way, shape or form related to the sentiments behind the badge creation. “We don’t talk about the slave trade and the perpetrators of slave trading in the Caribbean that were perpetrators themselves.
He continued: “In my view, it’s about education. It’s about making sure people are educated about what has happened in our world. It’s as simple as that.
