Mass vaccination with a safe and effective vaccine, in additional to physical distancing, hand hygiene, and universal masking practices, is likely our best hope for a curve reversal and getting back on the path to recovery. If a Covid-19 human challenge model can hasten the timelines for developing and deploying a vaccine, it would seem reasonable to pursue this course of action.
There is also the question of how we can ensure the public’s safety during the conduct of these experiments? When it comes to explaining how SARS-CoV-2 emerged, conspiracy theories abound. However, the reality may be less exciting. Numerous groups and individuals, including, have been warning the global community about an approaching pandemic.
