John and Anna McCann recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary
John and Anna McCann met at a dance at the Miners Welfare Club in Shotts in 1960, Anna was 17 years old and from the town, 19-year-old John lived in Newmains.
The newly-weds didn’t immediately have a home of their own, and stayed briefly in a room at John’s dad’s house in Newmains. Their family would grow, but there was heartache when baby daughter Pauline died when she was just five-and-a-half months old. John and Anna would go on to have two more daughters, Annemarie and Margaret.
They would move to Dykehead before flitting to a four-apartment in St Catherine’s Crescent. When daughter Margaret got married she moved into a three-apartment just five doors away.
