Shazam director David F. Sandberg jokingly says Ben Affleck's Superman is canon to the DCEU and the ending of his film.
Shazam! director David F. Sandberg jokes that Ben Affleck's Superman is DC Extended Universe canon with an edited still from the end of his film. Sandberg made his DCEU debut with the first Shazam!, which explored the origin story of teenage foster child Billy Batson as he is chosen by the wizard Shazam to be his new champion and protect the world from the Seven Deadly Sins.
In order to get a better grip on his powers, Billy ultimately turns to his foster brother Freddy Freeman for help, given his love of comic books and superheroes. Freddy consistently flouts his love and knowledge for the heroes in the world, including that of Ben Affleck's Batman, for whom he has a Batarang, and Henry Cavill's Superman, of which he has a bullet fired at the Man of Steel with a certificate of authenticity.
Prior to donning the cape and cowl for Zack Snyder and the DCEU with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck was considered to throw on the red cape and blue tights for Superman Lives, the Kevin Smith-scripted revival of the Warner Bros. franchise.
Despite these problems, Affleck did later sort of get to bring the Man of Steel to life with his performance as Superman actor George Reeves in Hollywoodland, from which Sandberg's edited Shazam! joke shot hails from. The nature of the DCEU canon has been a heated topic of debate amongst audiences following the departure of Snyder from the universe and WB. With a Black Superman movie currently in the works from Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J.
