Mary Marvel is integral to the lore of Shazam, but a recent evolution on her part threatens to upend it all. The Shazam Family is one of the first such groups to appear in comics, and Mary Marvel has long been one of its pillars. Now, in Shazam #11, Mary’s recent birthday has led to a massive change in her status quo, and could have implications for the Shazam Family.
Shazam #11 is written by Jose Campbell and drawn by Emanuela Lupacchino. Billy Batson’s foster family, including Mary, are preparing for a visit from Child Protective Services , and they are getting the house in order. The CPS representative arrives, and tells the foster parents they must wait outside as the children are interviewed. Mary walks out to greet the agent, who then tells Mary she too must wait outside.
