San Jose Sharks have reportedly acquired goalie Mackenzie Blackwood from the New Jersey Devils for a sixth-round draft pick
The Sharks have acquired goalie Mackenzie Blackwood from the New Jersey Devils for a 2023 sixth-round draft pick, a move San Jose’s front office hopes will help address one of the team’s most immediate needs.
James Reimer, who spent two seasons with the Sharks after he signed with San Jose in 2021, will be allowed to sign with another team when free agency begins on Saturday. Reimer went 31-38-18 for the Sharks over the last two years, including a 12-21-8 record last season when he had a .890 save percentage and a 3.48 goals-against average.
For his career, Blackwood, 26, has played in 152 NHL games, all with New Jersey, and has a 65-57-18 record, a 2.97 goals against average, a .906 save percentage, and eight shutouts. The only other goalies the Sharks have under contract are rookies Georgi Romanov and Magnus Chrona, although Eetu Mäkiniemi, a pending restricted free agent, will be brought back. It is unclear whether Strauss Mann, another pending RFA, will be given a qualifying offer.
