CHICAGO — The Giants released reliever Dominic Leone on Saturday, cutting ties with one of the most important pieces of their bullpen from last season but who struggled to find the same form this year.
At least one name that should figure prominently in those conversations is Cole Waites, the scruffy 24-year-old fireballer who started the year in High-A and this weekend arrived in Giants clubhouse.Both were products of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The reports on Cole have been very good,” Kapler said. “It’s obviously a high-octane arm that has missed bats his whole career. Everybody’s excited about the potential of seeing him at some point this season.”
