In the wake of COVID-19, companies are pushing employees to acquire digital work skills.

Personal pursuits aside, COVID-19 has given rise to a new suite of in-demand work skills to support an increasingly digital business landscape. A surge in online learningMore people are acquiring new skills from the comfort of their own homes than ever before. Online learning platforms like Coursera, Udacity, and EdX, for example, saw major spikes in course enrollment in March and April, much of it driven by workers at the direction of their employers.
According to Leah Belsky, Coursera’s chief enterprise officer, course enrollment nearly tripled. “Within our enterprise audience—people who have already provided courses to their employees—we’re seeing 80% to 90% increases in engagement on the platform,” she says. Coursera has seen enrollment surges for certification courses in cybersecurity. Courses that teach coding languages such as Java, HTML, Sass Stylesheet, and Ajax are also popular.
