Two South Elgin High School students died in a crash early Thursday morning following a collision with a semi-truck at Route 25 and Kenyon Road in Bartlett, police said.
The crash involved a 2002 Honda Civic, occupied by four South Elgin High School students, and a 2007 Mack semi-tractor trailer.A female passenger in the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene about 7 a.m. and a second female passenger later died at an area hospital, Bartlett police said.The Civic’s driver, a third passenger and the male driver of the semi were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Route 25 is closed between West Bartlett Road and Graham Road so the police investigation can be conducted. School District U-46 activated its Crisis Team at South Elgin High School to help students deal with incident. The Bartlett police investigation remains ongoing. They are being assisted by the Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team .
