Paul Askew had to give up on something he had always wanted
Paul Askew, a 23-year-old from West Derby, had long dreamed of being in a band. He became “obsessed” with The Beatles after watching the documentary film Eight Days a Week.
Paul soon developed a love for song writing too. According to him, he considered one song in every five he wrote to be of good quality. He still had a lot of apprehension after pursuing a solo career. Explaining what happened, Paul said: “Basically the stresses plus the band members not really being as committed as I'd like, and just the fact of I felt like I was being a bit too controlling in a band dynamic, made me just go solo, which was quite scary for me.
He said: “When we were rehearsing, the songs were coming together. They were all my songs. It was kind of like, I brought the songs to the lads and we all rehearsed them.“It was more of a battle for me to get the songs sounding the way they were. I think in the end, I was being a bit selfish because it was like, well we're a band, but why am I making all the ideas and vetoing everything? I think in bands, it should be a case of everyone having a say.
“And then there's like periods where there's not much happening, but I think you've got to be just consistent with it. I've got exciting things on the horizon and ideas I want to tackle.”
