BREAKING: Nebraska Rep. Jeff Fortenberry has announced his resignation from Congress.
Fortenberry's announcement comes two days after his conviction of three felony counts regarding a 2016 foreign campaign contribution. He will resign on Thursday.
"It has been my honor to serve with you in the United States House of Representatives," Fortenberry wrote in a letter that included a quote from Mother Teresa."Due to the difficulties of my circumstances, I can no longer effectively serve."Upon his indictment last fall, the Nebraska representative gave up his committee assignment on the House Appropriations Committee. Ever since his conviction, fellow Republicans in the House urged Fortenberry to quit.
