HISD's first batch of applicants for TEA's board of managers shows Hispanics are underrepresented
"It should be a wake up call for our city — this is a void and we cannot just let it keep happening," Cruz said in an interview with the Chronicle.
Isidro Garza, an engineer and national education chair for the League of United Latin American Citizens, said he did not apply for the board of managers because he believes the takeover is illegal. Still, he described the situation as a"double-edged sword."“My concern is if you apply for the board of managers, you’re acquiescing to the takeover,” he said."The other side of it is, if the takeover continues, it would make sense you’d want to be at the table.
Meanwhile, somoe trustees at a Thursday night board meeting expressed concerns that the applicant pool included people who had previously lost in school board elections, vendors in the district and people who say they have already been chosen for the position despite an ongoing selection process.
