Actor Sean Penn has vowed to melt down his Oscar statuettes if Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky isn’t invited to speak at Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony.
“There is nothing greater that the Academy Awards can do than to give him that opportunity to talk to all of us,” Mr. Penn told CNN’s Jim Acosta during an interview this weekend from Warsaw. “Now, it is my understanding that a decision has been made not to do it. That is not me commenting on whether or not President Zelensky had wanted to,” Mr. Penn added. If that is the case, “when I return I will smelt mine in public,” he said referring, to the acting Oscars he won in 2003 for “Mystic River” and in 2008 for “Milk.”
