Sean Dyche was unhappy with two refereeing decisions in Everton's win over Burnley at Goodison Park
Sean Dyche believes Everton’s attempts to see out a much-needed win were made harder by a new set of baffling decisions.
The Blues overcame Burnley after Dominic Calvert-Lewin charged down Arijanet Muric in first half stoppage time and watched the ball rebound into the net. Dara O’Shea’s straight red card for a foul on Dwight McNeil as he was about to burst through on goal made the task easier but this was still a match that ended in nerves.
On Saturday, Dyche believed Sander Berge should have been shown a red card when Beto went down under pressure on the edge of the Burnley box. Dyche said he had watched it back and did not believe the foul was inside the area, but had referee Michael Oliver given a free-kick it would have marked an acceptance Beto was through on goal after being played through by Andre Gomes’ well-weighted ball. In the closing minutes, Dyche also believed James Garner was fouled in the box.
Speaking after the match, he said: “I hate crying it in about referees but how we don’t get a second sending off, how we don’t get a penalty on Jimmy Garner - it is identical to last week’s with Dom down at Bournemouth, we never got that one either. I don’t know how we don’t get them.”
