Scripps Ranch apartment complex fire displaces nine people, including two children [Breaking]
Two children and seven adults were displaced by an apartment complex fire in Scripps Ranch Sunday morning, but no residents or firefighters were injured, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The fire began at around 8 a.m. in a second-floor unit in the Scripps Terrace complex on Scripps Ranch Boulevard near Mira Mesa Boulevard, said San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Willy Melendez. The fire spread into a common attic and damaged a second unit. The common attic made the fire more difficult to extinguish because common attics allow fires to travel to other units, said Battalion Chief Jeff Mitchell.
A total of 75 fire personnel worked on the fire, which took about half an hour to extinguish, Mitchell said. The fire caused $175,000 in damage, including $150,000 in damage to the structure and $25,000 to contents. San Diego Fire-Rescue’s Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating the cause of the fire. The team investigates fires that incur significant financial loss as well as those that may be potential arson, Mitchell said.
