The Sunday Mail can reveal that a key policy which outlined how covid patients could be moved from hospitals to care homes has went missing from public view.
The Scottish Government was mired in another deletion row last night after it emerged key Covid documents had vanished. The Sunday Mail can reveal how the details of an early policy which outlined their disastrous practice of sending infected patients from hospitals into care homes has been removed from public access.
Opposition politicians last night reacted with fury to our revelation, which could be crucial in helping public inquiries unravel the mystery behind who ordered the policy. Lib Dem leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said: “What happened in our care homes was a tragedy. It deserves to be at the very heart of the inquiries so that bereaved families can get the unvarnished truth about the decisions that were made at the top of government.
It is unclear whether the document has been handed over to either the Scottish or UK Covid public inquiries which are expected to focus heavily on the controversial practice which is thought to have allowed the virus to spread unchecked. In England policy documents which reveal the process of sending infected patients into care homes remain online but with notes making clear that they were updated.
When we asked for comment on our story on April 18, 2020, a spokesman said: “It is important to note that hospital patients with Covid-19 are not discharged until they complete two negative tests.”
