The 47-year-old was attempting to clear a full sump when his right leg plunged through a grate into the sodium hydroxide.
A Scots worker suffered horror burns after falling into a chemical-filled sump at the INEOS plant in Grangemouth after health and safety failings.
The worker, who has not been named, suffered permanent scarring to his leg and was left in pain for four weeks following the accident. A Health and Safety Executive investigation into this incident found INEOS had failed to undertake a risk assessment of the work involved. “The dangerous properties of caustic are widely known and this incident could so easily have been avoided with the implementation of straightforward control measures identified through assessment.”
