Neurologists say people's brains are still developing even after turning 18
New research has discovered that people do not become fully fledged adults until they reach their 30s. According to neurologists, your brain is still going through significant changes even after you turn 18.
The expert and his co-workers used an MRI scan to look at the brains of 297 volunteers, aged 14 -24. They discovered the brain is still developing after 18 - meaning behaviour is still affected and mental health disorders are more likely to develop. However, he did add that experienced criminal judges can recognise the different between a 19-year-old defendant and a repeat offender in their 30s. The health expert explained: "I think the system is adapting to what's hiding in plain sight, that people don't like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. There isn't a childhood and then an adulthood. People are on a pathway, they're on a trajectory.
