Two local schools are celebrating national Blue Ribbon recognition for 2023: Kensington Intermediate School in Rocky River and St. Bernadette Elementary School in Westlake.
for 2023, including 19 schools in Ohio. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments.Scott Raiff has been interim principal at Kensington since mid-July. He substituted in Rocky River Schools for a couple of years and was also principal of St. Christopher School in Westlake for seven years before signing on at Kensington. In all, he has 39 years working in education.
Speaking of students feeling welcome, Raiff said: “I greet students off the bus, and I am impressed they arrive smiling. They are excited, and I visit classrooms as well. The principal of St. Bernadette Elementary School in Westlake is Maureen Goodwin. Assistant Principal Mary Beth Sullivan spoke for her in this interview regarding the school’s first Blue Ribbon win, as Goodwin was out of town on family matters.
“We have been very close as we pushed out some different themes of having a growth mindset. We put those relationships first, then all fell into place for 2023.”“We will continue to do what we do best, coming together as a community, put face first then relationships. Thanks to our dedicated teachers, we believe all will continue to fall into place.”
