With the cost of living rising and people trying to save money as much as they can on unnecessary spending, should parents in Northern Ireland be forced into spending hundreds of pounds on this one fixed cost they have no choice in?
One despairing mum has said recently told Belfast Live she was brought to tears by her daughter's uniform bill with the support grant not going far enough to help vulnerable families. She said: "I have recently bought my daughter her first uniform for secondary school and before the price of the PE kit is included it is already costing me more than £200. I honestly could have cried when I received the bill and saw the price."
So is it time we had a rethink on school uniforms and the way parents are supplied? Should parents also have to pay for specialised, branded PE gear? Are your costs every summer getting out of control as you aim to equip your children as best you can for the year ahead?
