Chicago's Erin Nelligan won the 33rd running of the Irish Soda bread Contest on Saturday at Reilly's Daughter in Oak Lawn, beating out 110 other contestants. It's one of the events leading up to the South Side Irish Parade scheduled for Sunday in Beverly.

It was the fifth time Nelligan entered the contest, coming away with three second place finishes and a third-place finish before breaking through on Saturday with an Old World recipe that her grandmother received from her neighbor in County Mayo.“I bought everything fresh night and I was more relaxed,” Nelligan said. “It’s like OK, let’s just have fun. I’m here with my girlfriends — just relax and have fun.
